iLearn 2026 Teacher
Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT) is seeking a teacher for the iLearn Summer Refugee Youth Program teaching newly-arrived refugee students. Preference is for ESL or Special Ed focused teachers, especially ones with experience working for a local school district.
iACT’s iLearn Program teaches basic language, math skills, and cultural orientation to refugee children who are new to Austin (ages 6-18). Some may have never attended school in the United States before and need to be prepared for their first year of school.
The iLearn Program runs for 6 weeks, from June 22nd through July 30th, Monday – Thursday 10am-1pm. These times are flexible and will likely be different on Thursday field trip days. Sessions are held in-person at our office in downtown Austin.
The iLearn teacher will be one of two educators with the following duties (approximately 100 hours):
- Prepare daily worksheets suitable for new English language learners of different ages.
- Help create a pre- and post- test to administer to all students, to measure English language learning.
- Prepare and teach a weekly cultural education topic related to school and life in the US.
- Accompany children on short, weekly outings.
- Co-lead with a second teacher for 2 or 3 full-day field trips on Thursdays.
- Receive and administer Food Bank lunches.
- **iLearn teachers will be aided by interns, volunteers, and language interpreters.
iACT has worked with newly arrived refugees of all ages for over 20 years and prides itself on creating a welcoming and caring environment for our clients. For this reason, we are seeking compassionate and friendly applicants who are able to work creatively and independently.
Clients are refugees from different countries who have experienced danger and hardship. Cultural sensitivity and openness to diverse groups, as well as discretion, privacy awareness, and a client-centered, trauma-informed approach are essential for applicants.
Compensation is $3,000.
