How long have you been in Austin?

I’ve lived in Austin for over 15 years!

How long have you volunteered with iACT?

I’m new to iACT. Being an assistant ESL teacher is my first “gig,” and I had my first class in September.

What made you want to volunteer with iACT?

My church has frequently hosted volunteer events with iACT, such as the Red Bench conversations and house painting. I’m not one for volunteering early Saturday mornings, but I’m happy to teach class virtually at night! I think it’s a great way to give back to the community and make a difference in a really tangible way.

What do you enjoy most about working with iACT?

I love the students. It’s amazing to me to see all these people work so hard during the day and then take their precious free time and still put it toward growth and development, for the benefit of themselves and their families. That is true drive and dedication. They work so hard and are so smart!

What’s the most challenging experience you’ve had while volunteering with iACT?

Honestly I haven’t had a challenging experience yet. There have been some technical difficulties with the Zoom meetings, but Anell pretty much has it all figured out!

Why would you encourage others to volunteer with iACT?

Volunteering with iACT is a great way to give back and feel connected to your community. It feels so good to be able to tap into our shared humanity in this way and spread the love!
