Sediqa Gullestany is one of the clients of the iACT Health and Wellness Program. She joined the program while adjusting to life in a new city as an Afghan immigrant. Like many newcomers, she felt uncertain about how the healthcare system works and where to find clear and trustworthy guidance.
The iACT Health and Wellness classes are not only about one health topic. They help people who are new to the city understand their bodies, recognize warning signs, and learn how to communicate with their doctors with confidence. For Sediqa, these classes became a source of guidance during a confusing and stressful time.
The monthly gatherings were especially meaningful. They created a warm and safe space where people could meet, talk, laugh, and share their stories. Being able to connect with others, express feelings, and feel understood helped reduce stress, loneliness, and depression—common experiences among immigrants.
Through education, connection, and community support, Sediqa gained confidence, awareness, and peace of mind. She no longer felt alone while navigating her health and building a new life.
Sediqa’s story shows how programs like iACT can support immigrants not only physically, but emotionally and socially as well.
