At Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT), we are honored to nominate the Babrakzai family for this year’s Season for Caring campaign. Their journey to Austin reflects both extraordinary hardship and extraordinary resilience.

The Babrakzais fled Afghanistan after the 2021 U.S. withdrawal, facing years of uncertainty, dangerous border crossings, and the devastating loss of a newborn due to lack of medical care. After finally resettling in Austin in 2023, they have worked tirelessly to rebuild their lives. The children are thriving in school and learning English quickly, while the parents are focused on creating stability—both through work and through supporting their kids’ healing, including ongoing care for their daughter Madina, who suffered serious burn injuries before arriving in the U.S.

Despite their progress, the Babrakzai family still faces significant challenges. From essential household items to medical and educational support, their needs remain substantial as they work to establish a safe and hopeful future in their new home.

Through Season for Caring, our community has the opportunity to stand alongside the Babrakzais and help ensure they receive the resources and encouragement they need. At iACT, we believe that compassion in action can transform lives—and this family is a powerful reminder of why that work matters. To support the Babrakzais and learn more about Season for Caring, please visit the link below.
