At iACT, we offer English classes to support people in their journey of reintegration into our country. More than just a classroom, this space becomes a meeting point of cultures, traditions, nationalities, and languages. Individuals from all over the world, different in age, race, gender, and origin; but united by a shared goal and, often, the unexpected gift of friendship.

Among our students are two older learners, both in their 50s or 60s, who’ve found in each other a daily companion. From Monday to Thursday, 10 AM to 12 PM, they sit in the same classroom, share the same space, and now share a bond.

One is from Cuba, the other from Ukraine. They don’t speak each other’s native language. Their English is limited, yet through gestures, smiles, and the simple rhythm of routine, they’ve built a connection that feels like a very kind friendship.

Each morning, they wait for one another in the parking lot, walking side by side to class. During the break, they sit together, sharing snacks and quiet moments. When class ends, they leave together, often waving goodbye with a smile that says, See you tomorrow.”

Their story is a reminder of what it means to be human, to seek connection, to adapt, and to find comfort in someone who, despite all differences, understands what it feels like to start over in a new country. And we feel proud to be part of these experiences from our clients. These small moments of connection are what make our work so meaningful.
