This summer, iACT proudly hosted its annual iLearn Program from June 22 through July 30, 2026, at its offices at First Austin. The program provided a welcoming, supportive space where refugee youth ages 6-18 strengthened academic skills, built confidence, and formed meaningful connections. Daily activities supported English language development, reading comprehension, writing, speaking, math, and problem-solving.
Key Program Details:
- Sessions were held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Thursdays were reserved for field trips to:
- Candlelight Ranch (6/25)
- The Austin Public Library (7/2)
- The Contemporary Austin – Laguna Gloria (7/9)
- Thinkery (7/16)
- Shield Ranch (7/23)
- 36 students from Afghanistan, Cuba, Morocco, and Syria participated in the 6-week program.
- iLearn was led by 4 iACT staff members, 2 iLearn Instructors, 3 interns, and 18 volunteers, with 466 total volunteer hours.
Throughout iLearn 2026, students had opportunities to celebrate their cultural heritage and participate in experiential learning activities. iLearn’s experienced instructors provided curriculum guidance tailored to students’ individual needs, while iACT staff provided ongoing support and interpretation in Arabic, Dari, Pashto, and Spanish, ensuring that every participant could engage and succeed. Interns and community volunteers also contributed to the nurturing environment that is at the heart of the iLearn Program year after year.
On July 30, the program concluded with a celebration featuring games, time capsule letters for students to revisit next year, and a certificate ceremony recognizing students, volunteers, and staff. In honor of the World Cup, each student received a soccer ball to take home.
iLearn 2026 was truly special. Several participants have shared how grateful they are for the program and the experiences they shared:

iACT is truly honored to serve refugee youth through the iLearn Program. By combining academic support, experiential learning, and cultural celebration, iLearn 2026 encouraged youth to learn, connect, and grow with confidence.
