How long have you been in Austin?
I’ve been in Austin since I was nine months old.
How long have you volunteered with iACT?
I have volunteered with iACT since I was in 8th grade in 2023.
What made you want to volunteer with iACT?
Our school does a service project every winter for all the 8th graders, where we get to choose from a few organizations to volunteer with after researching them. I chose to volunteer with iACT because we would be helping refugees settle in Austin, and that idea stood out to me. I really enjoyed the experience, and ever since then I’ve kept volunteering with them in other areas such as tutoring kids and working with Hands on Housing, where I did my Eagle Project and have also coordinated service learning for my school.
What do you enjoy most about working with iACT?
The thing I enjoyed most with iACT was my Eagle Scout project. I got to organize lots of friends and family to come paint and restore a house for Hands on Housing, and it was really fun to lead and work with everyone that came. I also enjoyed working with the homeowner because she was really nice and grateful to us.
What’s the most challenging thing about working with iACT that you experienced?
The most challenging thing about working with iACT was coordinating and finding the right type of service project with them since Eagle projects were new to iACT.
Why would you encourage others to perform similar volunteer work with iACT?
I would encourage other people to volunteer with iACT because all their projects make a huge impact. Also, there are many different ways you can volunteer with iACT besides Hands on Housing, such as tutoring adults or kids, or helping with community events, so there is definitely at least one type of volunteer work they offer that you will enjoy.
