Volunteer Spotlight: Raise the Roof Event Teams, Part Two

Hands on Housing’s 2014 Fall Raise the Roof Repair Event was joined by eight new teams! These teams were dedicated and eager, and we are excited for them to join our list of veterans.

Heimsath Architects and Braun & Butler Construction: Board member Ben Heimsath rallied this team of two Austin businesses, called the Arch-Con team. They will be stepping up and using their expertise to complete many much needed repairs for clients Bubba and Delta.

St. John’s United Methodist: St. John’s is one of iACT’s biggest supporters, with two board members attending this church, consistent involvement in iACT for Refugees, and regular attendance of our celebration events. We are so excited they will expand their involvement into Hands on Housing, as well! This team is energetic and ready to learn, and will be working down the street from Bethany on the home of the lovely Ruby.

Central Presbyterian: Central Presbyterian houses our ESL classes for refugee adults and iLearn, our summer program for refugee youth. Proving their dedication to service, they will now also be joining us as a Hands on Housing repair team! This year, they will be helping out high school sweethearts, Sarah and William.

Huston-Tillotson University: A group of mission-minded students will be organizing and working with LDS on James and Gloria’s home. The team leader, a junior at Huston-Tillotson, hopes to increase the school’s involvement and grow the team size over the years.

University Interfaith Council at UT: UIC will be our largest team this event, with over 100 volunteers expected! They graciously agreed to split up and support several different projects, which will allow us to amplify the good we do during the event.

UT Texas Infinites: This service group at UT is bringing great energy to our fall event. They will be partnering with Bethany UMC to learn and provide the peoplepower needed to complete the challenging tasks at that home.

Northstar Bank: Northstar joins us for their first event. We are excited to welcome this business into the mix, and be able to create truly diverse groups working on the homes. This year, Northstar will be working with LDS on James and Gloria’s home!
