At iACT, we have great appreciation for the wonderful volunteers who make our service work possible! In this Volunteer Spotlight iACT Volunteer Ashley Parker tells us a little more about herself.

iACT Volunteer Ashley Parker

How long have you been in Austin?

I am from Austin, I have lived here for over 12 years. I graduated high school in Round Rock.

How long have you volunteered with iACT?

I have been volunteering with iACT for a short time, only one month.

What made you want to volunteer with iACT?

I chose to volunteer for iACT in order to complete my TEFL certification practicum, I am studying to be an English teacher.

What do you enjoy most about working with iACT?

I wanted to watch English teachers in action and learn all I could from them. I have been fortunate enough to be involved with three different iACT English classes!

What’s the most challenging thing about working with iACT that you experienced?

One of the most challenging things about working with iACT was deciding which class to volunteer for. If I could, I would work with all of them!

What’s the most rewarding thing about working with iACT that you experienced?

The most rewarding thing about my volunteering experience has been encouraging students on their English learning journeys. I love to see their progress and dedication! I also love working with my amazing teachers, I have so much more to learn from them!

Why would you encourage others to perform similar volunteer work with iACT?

I would encourage anyone who has a heart for education to volunteer in iACT’s English classes. The students are amazing human beings with incredible life stories, and I learn from them in every class!

Thanks so much for working with us Ashley!
